The first Gospel writer recorded these words: And the report of him [Jesus] went forth into all Galilee: and they brought unto him all that were sick, holden with divers diseases and torments, possessed with demons, and epileptic, and palsied; and he healed them (Mt. 4:24, ASV ). From this point on, there are numerous references to demons or demon possession in the New Testament. (“Devils,” as found in the King James Version, is an incorrect rendition.
